Who Made Our Clothes?
I want to talk about what blank t-shirts and hoodies that we print on. When I was looking for a company to use as our blanks to print on, I did a lot of research. It was important for me to find a company that does not utilize sweatshop labor and is eco-friendly. These things are extremely important to me and my core beliefs.
Why is it important where our clothes are made?
The fashion industry can be harsh on both the environment and people, unfortunately. Many clothing brands still utilize sweatshop labor in dangerous working conditions. I have personally seen documentaries on some of the sweatshops that some brands use, and it made me sick to my stomach. While I am not going to call out any brands specifically, if you're interested, do a google search for "Brands that use sweatshop labor" if you would like to find out for yourself. The fashion industry can also be harsh on the environment. We are living in a time where it is more important than ever to care for the planet.
When I was doing my research, two brands stood out when it came to transparency about where their clothes are made. The first brand is Bella+Canvas, based out of Los Angelos, California and the other brand is Next Level Apparel based out of Gardena, California. Both of these brands have sections on their website where they describe how the clothes are ethically made in WRAP certified facilities. WRAP certified stands for Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production and "is a globally recognized, independent 3rd party certifying body whose mission is to promote ethical, humane and lawful conditions and practices in all manufacturing facilities." ( Resource: https://www.bellacanvas.com/company-info ). Bella+Canvas has many sections on its website describing where the garments are manufactured. Most of Bella+Canvas manufacturing is done in the USA and assembled in facilities in the north and central American regions. For more information on where Bella+Canvas garments are made, please refer to http://blog.bellacanvas.com/where-is-bellacanvas-made/. For more information on where Next Level Apparel garments are made, please refer to https://www.nextlevelapparel.com/social-responsibility. We are proud to use both of these brands not only because they are ethically made but the apparel is also incredibly comfortable. We have gotten many reviews from our customers about how comfortable our clothes are, especially our hoodies.
But how are your clothes eco-friendly?
Both Bella+Canvas and Next Level Apparel have sections on their website describing how they use innovative eco-friendly tactics to produce the garments. The section on Bella+Canvas website blew me away. Bella+Canvas utilizes water and energy reduction as well as having virtually zero waste. For more information on their eco-friendly techniques, please refer to https://www.bellacanvas.com/eco_friendly.
Where are your shirts printed?
Our shirts are printed locally on Long Island, NY. We mostly use a company called Long Island Screen Printing. They do a fantastic job on the print, and the quality has been phenomenal.
